Taylah finds her calling
Taylah is usually a quiet, unassuming young person who just wants to find a career that she enjoys and she can be proud of. First coming to Youth Projects as via our Transition to Work team, Taylah was supported by the team to secure work in a call centre where she learnt new skills and made new friends. What Taylah soon realised, is that this wasn’t really her calling.
I didn’t think I would ever do a qualification; but having the work and study together will be a good thing.
In June, Taylah enrolled into a Certificate III in Individual Support through Melbourne Training Options. It was the first time Taylah had undertaken training since she completed her VCAL Intermediate Certificate in 2017. Understandably, she was a little concerned about what could happen. Soon enough, Taylah found that our style of training was different to what she had experienced before. It was relaxed and inclusive.
Students are required to participate in 120 hours of placement in an Aged Care facility or a facility caring for people with disabilities as part of their course. Taylah scored a placement at Moran Aged Care in Roxburgh Park. They’ve already been so impressed by Taylah that she might score a paid position after completing her course. Taylah will qualify with a Certificate III in Individual Support – Ageing, Home and Community in 2019.
